Summer Reading 2019
There are three program levels this year, designed to accommodate all ages of readers and listeners.
Infants through 11 years of age are encouraged to participate in the “Summer in Space” Summer Reading Program, which runs from Monday, June 3 through Saturday, July 13, at 1:00 p.m. Launch Week begins Monday, June 3 with events at each of the libraries all week. Special programs will be held almost weekly at each library, and children will receive certificates and reading incentives based upon their reading. This year, youngsters will be given a Game Board to color in a space for every day they read at least 20 minutes. The Game Board has levels that inform kids when to show the librarians their progress, and receive incentives throughout the 6 week program.
Ages 12-18 can enroll in the Teen Summer Reading Program. Events at this level are geared for the older youth, and again, will be held at each of the county libraries. At Anahuac, for every item checked out from the library, teens will receive a stratchie to see if they are a winner. Only 1 scratchie per day. At Winnie and Mont Belvieu, for every 2 books read or heard, simply fill out a bookmark with the titles and enter to win a drawing each week for great prizes. Weekly drawings will also be held at each branch.
Adults can also participate in the Adult Summer Reading Program. For every 2 books read or heard, adults will fill out a bookmark with the titles and enter to win a drawing each week for great prizes. Book Club meetings will continue at all the branches throughout the summer. There will also be special adult programs at each branch this year including, escape room board games, wine tasting, scavenger hunt, trivia, movies, and more! Check your local branch for details.
